Governor's Community Investment Awards
In the spring of 1995, Governor Lawton Chiles, Secretary Ross, and the public-private partnership group created the Governor's Community Investment Awards (GCIA) to recognize private businesses that are actively involved in supporting programs that help Florida's children become successful and productive citizens. This recognition program continues and thrives as a focus of the Florida Juvenile Justice Foundation, Secretary Frank Peterman, Jr. and Governor Charlie Crist. Therefore, the Governor's Community Investment Awards provide the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice and the Governor's Office the opportunity to recognize those outstanding businesses from around the state that are voluntarily working to reduce juvenile delinquency in communities.
